Data visualisation: do you see what I see?

data visualisation

Data visualisation- the presentation of data in a pictorial or graphical format- enables decision makers to grasp difficult concepts or identify new patterns (definition from SAS). So what do you see in the map above?

Today’s post is a little bit different but as someone who has come to appreciate the power of data visualisation and is learning about visual analytics techniques (and incidentally someone married to a cycling/Strava fanatic), I had to share with you the doodles of Stephen Lund, GPS artist.

One creative man, his bike and a clever website (Strava) produce the most unexpected maps. From the anglerfish above to Father Christmas, it is amazing the array of possibilities on our door step. Go and check out http://gpsdoodles.com/

You are even invited to share your vision with Stephen Lund…so what patterns to you identify on this map of Victoria BC?

On this rainy Wednesday morning (at least it is in Stockholm), take 5 minutes to visualise what could be… and inspire the GPS artist’s next doodle.
